Welcome!
My name is Joelle Khouri. I am an undergraduate student at Penn State majoring in Chemical Engineering and minoring in Biomedical Engineering, German, and International Studies. I have a love for many other languages and cultures, and as such I am an active member of the French Club and the German Club on campus. I am also involved with Engineers Without Borders and hold an officer position in the university's chapter of the American Institute of Chemical Engineers.
As an aspiring engineer, I have always resented the stereotypes that "engineers can’t write" or that engineers dislike the liberal arts. These are sentiments I have heard increasingly more often since coming to college, from non-engineers and engineers alike. While it might be true that some—or even many—of my peers do not appreciate the liberal arts, I do not feel the same way. I love learning of all types, and I have always made an effort to explore more than just the science and math inherent in my major. Although engineers often receive criticism for their purported lack of communication skills, having strong communication skills is crucial to being a good engineer. Engineers often work in groups and must also be able to clearly and effectively convey their ideas to others. Throughout my time at Penn State, I have worked towards improving my verbal and written communication skills. On this site, I have compiled what I feel represents my best work in these areas.
